As you know, the SVB requires a validation for the AOW benefit, issued exclusively and only by the SSO office Thailand (Social Securety Office). The SSO office definitely does not provide validation for a Dutch pension fund, unless this pension fund has joined the SVB. I have a few things in writing from the board of the SVB.

The SVB informs me by letter as follows: "To see whether you can receive an AOW pension, we still need an official birth certificate from your partner." It is stated that this can be requested “from the authority in the country where the person was registered after birth”.

The SVB Roermond refuses to send the life certificate and income statement to its customers by e-mail. This will be done by post in the future. With, for us, all the nasty consequences given the quality of the Thai Postal Service.

Every year I receive a questionnaire from the SVB asking for proof of life and whether you want to state whether you live together and, if so, with whom. I live with my Thai girlfriend, but she is rather suspicious and really doesn't want to sign anything or anything like that! How do I solve that?

I have been told by the SVB that my wife's allowance will be lifted, because I cannot prove that her income is € 210 per month from the sale of fruit.

Maybe a superfluous question, but I can't find it when searching the archive. If I marry the Buddhist way (which I don't think is the same as for the law), and live with a Thai, do I have to declare that to the SVB as well? After all, I live together.

Has anyone also experienced this? Several times I have seen transfers from my ING bank to my bank in Thailand fail.

Received a letter from the SVB (Social Insurance Bank) in Roermond yesterday. Couldn't read it right away, because the envelope was soaking wet from a heavy downpour of rain. First let's dry it a bit, I thought, will be the annual check to see if I'm still alive.

At the monthly meeting of the Dutch Thailand Association, Pattaya section, two representatives of the Social Insurance Bank come to explain why state pensioners in Thailand have to prove that they are still alive in a rather cumbersome manner.

My question is, how can one simply determine that you live in another country when this is not even possible! Isn't that legally possible?

I would like to ask a reader question about the AOW. My question is, Am I entitled to a single AOW supplement or not?

For those who do not understand the answers plus the explanation given by us, find them too confusing or do not agree, we advise you to contact the SVB in Roermond yourself.

For specific private reasons, I decided to stop working quite a few years before I turned 65. That was possible because I could make use of an early retirement scheme at the pension fund, which I was affiliated with through my employer. Nothing special in itself, that was all arranged in an orderly manner, with every year I received a letter from the pension fund to check whether I was still alive.
