I want to propose to my girlfriend. Now I hear that it is customary to give my girlfriend's parents some kind of lump sum for my girlfriend's education. I also hear from others that if she is already married and has 2 adult children and is already 46 years old, this is no longer necessary.

In our village in Isaan, it is rumored that a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy are getting married before the Buddha.
