I want to go on holiday to Thailand with a friend in April. But now I saw that you are not allowed to smoke everywhere. Like where is that not allowed? Because I don't want to get in trouble for smoking a nice cigarette, and I get arrested. I read somewhere that you also have to go to jail for a year? Now that is quite worrying.

I know it's an unhealthy habit, but I've been smoking for years and feel good about it. In the Netherlands I mainly smoked Samson or Drum shag. Cigarettes were too expensive.

Smoking ban on Thai beaches

From the start of the high season on November 1, smoking is prohibited on a number of Thai beaches. The Thai government will apply strict sanctions in line with already existing regulations, with violators of the smoking ban risking up to a year in prison or a fine of up to 100.000 baht.

A quarter of heavy smokers do not reach their 65th birthday

One in four heavy smokers dies before the age of 65. The life expectancy of heavy smokers (more than twenty cigarettes per day) is on average 13 years shorter than that of never smokers. This has emerged from new research by Statistics Netherlands and the Trimbos Institute into the relationship between smoking and mortality.
