Ranong, the northernmost Thai province on the Andaman Sea, has a lot to offer a tourist with an abundance of mangroves, beaches, hot springs, islands, mountains, caves, waterfalls and temples.

Thailand has more than 100 national parks, which I obviously do not know all, in fact, I only know a few. It even took a violation of the Emergency Decree to introduce me to Ngao Waterfall National Park in southern Ranong province.

Questioner: At the beginning of January we will be going to Thailand for a longer period of time and will have to make a visa run. A friend of mine from Chiangmai told me that many border points with Myanmar are closed, with the exception of Ranong. We are staying in and around Cha Am for a longer period of time and that would be a nice trip. Does anyone know more about using Ranong as a border point for a visa run? I know I also need a visa for 3…

Next week we have to make a visa trip. In the past we always went to Andaman club in Ranong. All borders are closed due to the unrest in Myanmar. Recently I read that there would be talks about reopening the borders. However, I never read that that happened again.

Does anyone know if the border to Myanmar at Ranong is open for foreign tourists? I ask this because I am 9 days short of visa days and if possible do not want to pay a 500 baht fine per day when I fly back to the Netherlands from Thailand. I have already used the 1 month extension.

As mentioned in part 1, we want to turn this border run into something more than a 'run'. The main goal was already reached in the very early afternoon, so we will now do some sightseeing in Ranong and the surrounding area.

Last week one of my friends was forced to do a border run. Although he used to stay here on an annual extension, it was now temporarily impossible for him to meet the financial requirements as an unmarried pensioner. So, with a Non O Multiple Entries, obtained at the Thai Embassy in The Hague, every 90 days, you are required to leave the country to obtain a new 90-day residence period.

Coming back from Penang by train I spend a night in Chumpong. I'm up again at midnight. I'm going downstairs. There appears to be a large restaurant there, which is already busy. I pay for my room and inquire how to get to Ranong. The woman at the reception thinks for a second and asks if she should arrange a minivan. Please, I say. She calls and says a van is coming at eight o'clock…
