Lamphun, on the Ping River, is the capital of Lamphun Province in Northern Thailand. This historic place was once the capital of the Haripunchai kingdom. Lamphun was founded in 660 by Queen Chamthewi and remained the capital until 1281, when the empire came under the rule of King Mangrai, a ruler of the Lanna dynasty.

The entire province of Ayutthaya is now a disaster area
All 16 districts of Ayutthaya province have been declared a disaster area. Some residential areas along the Lop Buri river are 2 meters under water. Six dams are in danger of collapsing under water pressure
Six reservoirs in the northeast are so full of water that the dams are in danger of collapsing. Landslide kills family of five
A family of five died when their village of Ban Kai Noi (Chiang Mai) was hit by a landslide caused by heavy rains. Ban Kai Noi has 60 houses, four of which were destroyed.
