After visiting the border town of Mae Sam Laep, we continue to Mae Sot, also bordering Burma. The approximately 240 kilometer long road (105) takes us through a rugged area where we hardly encounter any sign of life except for the impressive nature.

The new passenger terminal at Mae Sot (Tak) Airport is expected to open at the end of this year. The focus is clearly on growth, because the new terminal can handle 1,7 million passengers per year, the current terminal 'only' 400.000 passengers.

A must is the route 1095 with its more than 1800 hairpin bends from Chiang Mai via Pai to Mae Hong Son. Pai is located about 140 kilometers north of Chiang Mai and used to be a sleepy town with little to do, but now it is a true backpacker's resort.
