Land grab in Thailand
'Landjepik' is an old game that you used to play as a child in the Netherlands. Now 10.000 kilometers further, it is not a game, but pure seriousness for several parties.
Illegal cultivation of land appears to be a major problem in Thailand. New scandals keep popping up. It is very important to the government to combat illegally built accommodations and land grabbing. Now it is Kanchanaburi province's turn and illegal holiday parks are being demolished. The fact that this government is serious about tackling illegal buildings is evident from the approach and implementation of the proposed measures.
Do they really have to leave? Or does it fizzle out? Those who know Hua Hin know that from the pier the beach is built up with fish restaurants, guesthouses and houses. Many were once, in the distant past, built illegally and the authorities now want to take action against this.
