We also want to take our cat to Koh Samui, but we don't know what vaccinations she needs. Which are mandatory? And is an import license required? How did you get it? Does the cat also have to be quarantined?

Nam, a young woman who lives here in Pattaya and whom I have known for many years, has a new boyfriend. It's not her first boyfriend and certainly won't be the last, but for now the two are doing well. He works in Bangkok and rents a not cheap condo in the Asoke district. Nam has moved in with him and then occasionally comes to Pattaya for a special reason.

Reader question: We want to take our dog (4 kg) with us when we go to Thailand for 4 to 5 months; rental house where animals are allowed. Then under our guidance. Q: Is that back-and-forth taking a pet to do (read: affordable)? Because he is Thai and has already entered the EU, he has both a Thai pet passport, a stack of papers with stamps, and a Dutch animal passport with valid vaccinations.

We would like to spend the winter in Thailand for 2 or 3 months and take our cat with us, but the information on this blog about bringing pets sometimes seems contradictory. Some readers indicate that vaccinations, pet passport, chip, VWA inspection, Foreign Affairs form, Thai embassy form are of course necessary, but no quarantine and have experienced this in practice. Another reader refers to www.licg.nl and that site states that a 30-day quarantine is mandatory. What is it now?

I submitted this article in response to an article on Thailandblog, in which costs for a dog operation were mentioned. This cost would have been 50.000 Baht. I think this is incredibly high. But more importantly, I'm afraid that this price might put people off going to the vet and there's no need to.

Cats and dogs often have little or no meaning in the eyes of the Thai, except for the upper class who parade with these monstrosities at their countless social parties with a dog bought for a lot of money. Fortunately, for the many foreigners living in Thailand, cats and dogs do have a meaning.
