"I'll just stay a free boy in Thailand"
My experience with Thailand extends over a period of about sixteen years. Of course I know many stories about foreigners who have lost all their (savings) money in Thailand due to serious relationship problems. I also often enough hear the stories about married foreigners who misbehave in bars and restaurants.
A classic love story from Thailand
Thousands of stories have been written about how to deal with Thai ladies, even many books can be found in the store and yet….some never learn. You and I, as experienced Thailand visitors, know the ins and outs, but for newcomers it is yet another classic example of what threatens to turn into a “love drama”.

The Thai army promises a major clean-up in commercial activities. That decision comes after the mass murder by a Thai soldier in Korat. The commercial activities of the Thai army account for a billion baht (nearly thirty million euros) per year.
Angry temple visitors at Wat Boonsamphan in Pattaya
The "disorder" has broken out among the Nongprue residents. They no longer accept that they are no longer allowed to park at the Wat Boon Samphan as local residents and visitors. The temple employees treat people in an aggressive way. They have discovered a new source of income by making the Chinese tour buses pay parking fees and allowing visitors to buy drinks from them.
A view by Noi, a Thai woman

Cambodia: visa and money
To end all ambiguity; for Cambodia you need a visa - also for a short border run. Until recently, you had to fill in a form, after which you received a so-called 'visa on arrival' upon arrival at an airport.
Tambourines
You hear the Thai express it so often: 'tamboons'. As an outsider you often don't know the details. That's why I've delved a little deeper into this subject and tried to penetrate the souls of the Thai.
About half of the Dutch rate their financial situation as good to very good. According to three in ten Dutch people, their financial situation has improved in the past 12 months, while a quarter of the Dutch have seen their own financial situation deteriorate.
Thai demands money after accident, is that normal?
Friday evening I had an accident with the car in Chiang Mai. I wanted to turn around and watch carefully if no cars are coming, suddenly the driver of a motorbike flies into my car. They were on the motorcycle with 3 people, the father and the mother and a baby in between. Luckily they all had helmets on. The man was not hurt, the baby at first glance, and the woman had a light scratch on her leg.

Financial support for Thai women
In the West it is quite normal in a relationship for both the man and the woman to be involved in finances. Actually, that is never a point of discussion. How different it is when it comes to financial support for your Thai wife
A quarter of the Dutch say they will not go on holiday this year. 54 percent of them indicate that holidays are too expensive. Last year, 42 percent thought holidays were too expensive.
I plan to sell all my possessions in Thailand: house, pick up truck, etc. and move back to Belgium for family reasons. What would be the best way to get larger sums of money to Belgium? I have had an account with Bangkok Bank for years.
The other side of the Medaille
If we personally experience something in Thailand with which we (heartfeltly) disagree, we are only too happy to point out the blessings that we, Western expats, individually but also collectively bring to this country and its inhabitants, especially in financial and emotional sense. But are those blessings really so great and so unequivocal? Do we have an eye for the possibly negative aspects associated with our existence, our life, living and working here in Thailand? Chris de Boer is going to highlight the other side of the coin in this posting.
