Move to Udon Thani and then blow out
As a former team doctor of well-known Dutch cycling formations such as PDM, Panasonic and Vacansoleil, the world held hardly any secrets for Peter Janssen. Cyclism had taken him to all parts of the world and planted a small but steadily growing seed: one day I will leave the Netherlands and live in a completely different place.
Dutch TV: I left, I saw and I left again…
When you live in Thailand, like me, it doesn't make sense that you watch the Dutch television programs that come from the kitchen of the Largest Family of the Netherlands. I would actually rather say that that doesn't even make sense when you do live in the Netherlands, but that aside.
A new Dutch health insurance in Thailand
Two out of three good, that seems like a good score. I have been deregistered in the Netherlands, albeit with a run-up and have now finally arranged my health insurance, with a few pitfalls and some threats.
Get rid of the Dutch tax authorities…
I eventually succeeded in deregistering from the Municipal Basic Administration of Heerlen, albeit not without a struggle. You can report a move within the Netherlands via the internet, but all kinds of boxes are tilted at foreign addresses. So there was nothing else to do than to report the move to Thailand by 31 December in writing. A good friend posted the envelope at the beginning of December and then a deep silence set in. I contacted via email…

All this prompted by: the austerity drive here in the Netherlands; the atmosphere in politics and country; the costs that are spiraling out of control here; the many rules, which make it increasingly difficult to get things done; the rapidly changing climate (wet and cold) 🙂 Actually just a little dissatisfaction and nothing more than that. I am suffering from a…
Emigration to Thailand and the consequences for your insurance
An emigration is a fantastic adventure. The prospect of being in the middle of a completely different culture with a wonderful climate in the future is great. But of course a lot of things have to be arranged in order to close everything properly in the Netherlands, but also to be able to start in Thailand in a good and safe manner. And it is precisely the latter that requires a lot of research, also in the field of insurance. Because living in a country where…
Moving to Thailand (1)
Once you have been to Thailand, you will wonder whether you would like/could live (semi)permanently in the 'Land of Smiles'. Particularly among people who are approaching retirement age, the possibility of exchanging the cold and relatively expensive Netherlands for a long-lasting holiday feeling is on the mind.
