Anyone who has been to Thailand for a long time will certainly have memories of certain bars and/or discos. Unfortunately, a number of iconic nightlife venues have closed in recent years. Maybe you met your current Thai partner there. We all know them: the Cheap Charly's bar in Bangkok, the Marine disco in Pattaya, Bed Supperclub in Bangkok and so on. Faded glory unfortunately.
Where is she?
As a part-time Thailand resident, I would now be packing my suitcase to travel to Thailand for the next three months. Okay, through fifteen days of seclusion and the necessary paperwork, I could still go to my house in the Isaan. But I doubt. Perhaps a miracle will happen in October and the fifteen days of seclusion will be shortened to….?
Cheap charlie's bar is reopening
A piece of nostalgia that returns, that's good news. Many expats have warm memories of the well-known and 35-year-old bar that used to be located on Soi Sukhumvit 11 in Bangkok. That building has since been demolished to make room for urban development in that area.
The dreary end of the Cheap Charly bar in Bangkok
Recently there was a question about the status of the catering establishments in Sukhumvit Soi 11. From the bar Cheap Charlie (see photo), which has since been demolished, to Restaurant Soi 11, which is still in full operation, everything on the left is empty. Ready to hit the ground running as well.
Next month we will travel to Thailand again. I would like to hear the following from people who are well acquainted with Bangkok today. I heard Charlie's Bar on Soi 11 was being demolished. Has the business restarted at a different location? Same question regarding the Beergarden in Soi 7. Or are there similar things for a beer, some music and a chat? Does the SOK 11 restaurant still exist, near Charlie's Bar around the corner, or was it also demolished?
Cheap Charlie's Bar in Bangkok
If you are a 'Cheap Charlie' in Thailand, then that is not really a compliment. Yet a bar in Bangkok called 'Cheap Charlie's' is legendary. It's the smallest, cheapest and strangest bar in Bangkok's famous nightlife district
Bangkok's shortest food street
That very small street in Sukhumvit Road Soi 11 in Bangkok, which you pass without realizing it, reminds me a little of the much longer famous food street Rue de Mouffetard in Paris' Latin Quarter.
