Friends sometimes ask me "Lung Jan, tell me about the Buddhist symbols and rituals" and usually I don't take too long to put up a tree about this... I'm not an expert, but I have I have learned a few things over the years that I would like to share.

In Thailand you often find Banyan trees (a type of Ficus) in the yard of a temple, as Buddha is said to have found enlightenment when he sat under one of these trees.

The very old villagers and those who had died long ago also said that it had been there for as long as they could remember. The tree now spread its branches and its roots over a large area. In Memoriam: Alex Binnekamp (58) Hua Hin
Yesterday I received the message that Alex Binnekamp passed away suddenly earlier this week and was only 58 years old. Although Alex was not a well-known person on Thailandblog, he was in the expat community in Hua Hin.

The decision is made. On March 15, the doors of the 86 villas of Banyan Resort in Hua Hin will be locked. The rental income is insufficient and the accommodation is due for renovation after ten years.
