The Human Rights in Finance Foundation recently started the petition “Stop excessive money laundering monitoring now and strengthen the right to payment accounts”, which SNBN is happy to expand and share - simply because this also affects Dutch people outside the Netherlands. Bank account in Belgium if you have been officially deregistered?
More and more Belgians are being “thanked” by their Belgian bank and therefore lose their account. To prepare for this situation, I tried to open a new account at various Belgian banks. I have not been successful in this at any bank. In my humble opinion, I believe that every Belgian is entitled to minimum banking services.
This week I received a letter from BNP (Fortis). Not to warn me that they would close my bank accounts in Belgium. It was stated in detail that the bank is obliged by the Belgian legislator to disclose certain information about each account holder.
Research: 'Dutch people abroad with a Dutch bank account are faced with arbitrary cancellations'
Many Dutch people living abroad have or had a Dutch bank account. In recent years, banks have increasingly asked for more money to maintain these accounts. More and more banks are also closing the accounts of Dutch people abroad without consultation. Banks say they do this because they have to incur extra costs to comply with the rules of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). DNB monitors the banks in this way to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing.

Speaking of banks
Recently there have been quite a few critical comments about Dutch banks on this blog. To put it mildly, the messages are often not very positive for the banking sector.
Recently I noticed that when withdrawing money from an ATM (in the Lamduan / Surin region) I no longer get the choice of whether or not to convert. It is automatic with conversion, which has suddenly made withdrawing 10.000 baht € 15 to € 18 more expensive. At my Dutch bank I now only pay € 2,25.
