Thailand's economy is one of the strongest and most diverse in Southeast Asia. The country is the region's second largest economy after Indonesia and has a growing middle class. Thailand is a major exporter of goods such as electronics, vehicles, rubber products and agricultural products such as rice and rubber.
ASEAN was founded 55 years ago
The ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) or in beautiful Dutch the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a concept in Asia. This important interest group of ten countries in Southeast Asia aims to promote economic, cultural and political cooperation and is an important player in the field of international relations. People often forget the crucial role Thailand played in the creation of this important organization.
Many international observers are increasingly questioning what they describe as 'Thailand's disappearing regional leadership'. During the Cold War and in its aftermath, Thailand played a central role in regional diplomacy, but in recent years it has declined significantly.

Outlook for rice exports is bleak
The prospects for the export of Thai rice to the Asean countries are not promising, because most neighboring countries opt for cheaper rice from Vietnam. Vietnam currently serves 70 percent of the market in Southeast Asia; the remaining part is for Thailand.
