This year we are going to Thailand for the first time during Christmas and New Year's Eve. There will be 6 of us in Chiang Mai. The question now is what should we take into account? Do we definitely have to wear a neat outfit, are Christmas dinners mandatory, what happens around (our) New Year's Eve celebration?
Christmas in Thailand
It is that time again! Tomorrow is Christmas again. Here in Thailand, the Christmas trees are in abundance at the major shopping centers. Mandatory viewing of Christmas trees, Christmas decorations, Santa Clauses in the snow, listening to Christmas music, etc. in a country where less than 5% is Christian. And keep hearing: “What you give me for Krissemus?” What a misery!
Celebrating Christmas in Thailand
In Belgium and the Netherlands people are already busy decorating the Christmas tree and installing Christmas decorations. The weather is also cooperating, it's cold and it's going to freeze. The first snow is even predicted in the Netherlands later in the week. How different is it in Thailand….

Sweet memories
The approaching cold Christmas season continues to wander through my mind at the moment and think back to beautiful past years.
Sam's dream - an Isan Christmas story
Sam, Lung Jan's merry Catalan Sheepdog, had had a rough night. He was like Farang, just like his owner willing to go far, even very far in the integration and assimilation process, but just like his owner there were some things he had to endure for better or for worse. His owner and he just couldn't avoid that.
My Christmas Thought in Thailand
It's almost Christmas and although I'm not religious, it's always a time for reflection. Just think about this story in the coming time and especially if you have a tendency to have a negative reaction to someone or to some customs here in Thailand.
Help!, Yellow Submarine, You can drive my car or I want to hold your hand. Who doesn't know them, the world famous songs of the Fab Four from Liverpool. Breaking news: on Saturday 19 December they will perform at the Dutch Association Hua Hin & Cha am.

Winter in Isan: Christmas
Whatever one may claim, Christmas is not really a celebration held in Thailand. The commerce around it is of course there, but in the deep interior, in the villages and smaller towns, there is hardly anything to notice.
Christmas and New Year celebration
After last year's excellent experience, this time again opted for the Christmas Eve buffet on December 24 of the Pannarai hotel. Booked some overnight stays at the same Pannarai, so that it becomes a mini-holiday.

Bangkok in Christmas atmosphere
If you want to enjoy a Christmas atmosphere at tropical temperatures, you can go to Bangkok. This year's hot spots include the CentralWorld, EmQuartier and Emporium shopping malls, where dazzling light shows have become a fixture of the calendar.
Christmas in Thailand
Those terrible Christmas carols, sung by shrill children's voices, just at the right pitch. The worst part is that even at 30 degrees Celsius, I can't get them out of my head. 'You better watch out, you better not shout'…No: I don't dream of a White Christmas in Thailand and 'dsjingel bens' also comes out of my ears. And then those saleswomen with those ridiculous red and white hats.
There are Catholic churches in Thailand and I also saw quite a lot of Catholics during the Pope's visit. Can we also go to a Midnight Mass somewhere on Christmas Eve? Preferably near Pattaya or Jomtien.
Christmas and New Year with Charly
Well, the holidays at the end of December. Whether you like it or not, you just can't escape it. In Bangkok, Christmas trees in all sizes are offered for sale at the major shopping centers and you will stumble across all Christmas attributes. In the Isaan, things are just not going that fast, but here, too, commerce is slowly but surely making its mark.

Yesterday my Thai girlfriend was busy on line answering Christmas wishes. When I asked her if she knew what christmas actually is, she said "christmas is the newyear from the farang."
