Pattaya beach is getting wider

In The Nation I read that the beach of Pattaya will be widened far from the sea by sand reclamation. This has been talked about for years, but it seems that it will now start in October.

In two years time, the beach will be widened by 35 meters and this should have a positive impact on tourism. This requires 36.000 cubic meters of sand and the cost is estimated at 430.000.000 Baht. But at least then you have a beautiful beach with white sand over the entire length of Pattaya, about 2,7 kilometers.

Mayor Itthiphol has been working on this since 2005, because he needs financial support from the government and the local business community for this. In addition to the Department of Marine, the Aquatic Resources Research Institute of Chulalongkorn University is also closely involved in the project. This is to prevent negative environmental effects. Work will start in those places where there is now the least amount of sand. When the project is completed, Pattaya will once again be able to fully host 10.000.000 tourists per year. And this is especially good for the operators of beach chairs and umbrellas.

Hopefully by then people will realize the madness of closing the beach on Wednesday. Incidentally, I read very recently that a study is now also starting on the same project for Jomtien.

Thais are bad at math. Spraying 2700 m of beach over a width of 35 m with 36.000 cubic meters of sand?
This is about 30 cm of sand per square meter……
Is this a piece of bad journalism or do they believe in fairy tales?

The setter must have lost a zero somewhere, because 430.000.000 Baht for 36.000 cubic meters of sand seems quite expensive to me.
That is from memory almost 12.000 Baht per cubic meter of sand.
Whether the sand will be very white is also the question.
The sea is not that clean near Pattaya.

Richard, the beach will be widened to 35 meters. It won't be 35 meters wider.
I suspect a typo above from Dick.

Fortunately, otherwise we will get a beach like Rayong. The beach is right there
flat and at low tide the tide line is very far away.

    Ls,

Pattaya's beach could use a little makeover. Good thing, it remains a nice place for everyone. Rob

they better tackle the infrastructure thoroughly (; , and why do you start again in October just before the high season?
I do remember the beach road in early December 2013, breaking up at the police station for a road elevation, with the aim of stopping racing, with the result that traffic was stuck until banglamung.
Now those flyovers on sukumvit again, we farang will always keep thinking Amazing thailand..

      Hello Marcel,

      Amazing Thailand.you're right.
      We always say TIT.
And if we doubt whether it is true, then we say ourselves, of course it is, just cozy for the holidays, because ... TIT

And yes, the infrastructure also needs a lot, but the beach has a much higher priority for tourism.
The government should put a stop to construction and make sure that every cement block has its own parking facilities.
And I'm not even talking about water and electricity.

Think Marcel has been misinformed. There will be no fly over but a 5 km long tunnel on sukumvitroad
And everyone predicts that you need a submarine if it starts to rain a little

Maybe they should throw out that highway ... and spray it full with sand .... or terraces and bicycle, skate & butterfly trails ... hihi 🙂

    • ruud says up

I think the sand is just under the highway.
If you remove that, you're done.

Dear readers, I have heard this so many times, with the first best tropical rainfall, half of it has already been washed away. Look at the Netherlands, whole pieces of dunes are disappearing. The only solution is to build a barricade in the sea off the coast of Pattaya. We then get a kind of inland sea. In any case, the sand cannot be washed away. The Netherlands has already given advice once, but people do not want to listen or it was again too expensive. The Netherlands wants to be paid in advance or in part and Thailand will not refuse that…..

Completely agree with Kees, all countries around the world seek advice from specialists in waterworks and have their beaches sprayed up by specialized companies such as De Cloedt, Thailand does not need advice (Lose Face) will arrange that themselves with the supply of bags of sand ?? ?

First the major storm damage, which I wrote about three weeks ago, will have to be repaired.
Only then will it be possible to start widening the beach.

    Sincerely,
    Lodewijk

A wider beach, for what and who? they have already closed the beach to the tenants on Wednesday, there are 50% fewer sitting/lying places on the other days, and the ones I see are not even all occupied, don't worry if I get it

    regards loan
