A pub in South Pattaya was demolished because it was built without the proper permits. The regional building inspector, Chris Chunsuriya, oversaw the start of demolition on Dec. 21 of the Muse Pub at Bali Hai Pier.

The building on 476 square meters of land at the two-storey jetty was built by Volna Entertainment Co but without permission. City Hall ordered construction to stop on November 15. The command was ignored and construction continued.

The officials hired a company to demolish the building and hold the owner liable for the costs. Demolition is expected to take 45 days.

that is also a joke, the whole beach side is illegally built.

I think they are stricter at the Pier.

Demolition is absolutely right. If people do not intervene, everyone goes their own way and everyone has a license to build anything without a permit.

Everyone has gone their own way for 50 years and if you want to change that, you have to have transitional arrangements for everyone.
This is slightly ad hoc and random.
There are bound to be things that we don't know about.

According to the article, the local government had to stop construction, but they continued. That suggests new construction. Because no action was taken in the past, should access arrangements be introduced for new buildings? How? 'You placed something illegally X years ago, then we tolerate but we will now comply with the law, remember that after a transitional period of Y years you are no longer allowed to build anything new here without a permit'??

Apparently illegal construction has been tackled for some time now and renovations and new constructions without permission are forced to stop and be demolished. For example, on Khaosod there is a piece about a hotel that illegally built some floors and therefore has to tear them down. Seems fine to me. It only becomes a different story when suddenly the entire building, including what was already there before enforcement was started, is razed to the ground.
