Tourists beware: the 10 most dangerous places in Bangkok
More and more residents of Bangkok are concerned about the safety of the city. The immediate reason for this is the violent robbery yesterday of 31-year-old journalist Suwat Panjawong of the Thai Post.
The man narrowly survived a robbery in which the perpetrators had targeted his Nokia 3600 mobile phone of barely 9.000 baht. When he resisted, they tried to cut his throat. If he had arrived at the hospital a few minutes later, he would not have been able to tell (read more at www.coconutsbangkok.com/news/)
The BMA (Municipality of Bangkok) has compiled a list of the 10 most dangerous places in Bangkok. It is best to avoid these locations in the evenings (from 19.00 p.m.).
- Soi Lat Phrao 101
- Soi Lat Phrao 107
- Soi Sukhumvit 105 or Soi Lasal
- Soi Phaholyothin 52
- Soi Suphaphong
- Soi On Nut 44
- Soi Chalermprakiat 14
- Victory Memorial
- Sanam Luang or Royal Ground
- Ramintra Market
.
According to Thai News Agency, especially women and tourists traveling alone should be careful. Thieves often target Apple iPhones, which are easy to steal and therefore an attractive bait.

And what makes these places in Bangkok so dangerous? Are they invisible? Lots of people hanging out here?
What do we get now? I live in LadPhrao 101 and so apparently I live in the most dangerous place in Bangkok. And a few 10 meters further it is called Happy Land. Actually haven't noticed anything yet (and I hope it stays that way) but are there really no more dangerous places in Bangkok?
Then I won't come to you without bodyguards for coffee. 😉
I just talked to my wife about it, and she wasn't surprised at all. (Well, we know that again)
According to her, this mainly concerns the unlit or poorly lit side streets
LadPhrao 101 has a 50-60 side streets I estimate.
Could it be a coincidence (since it was also on TV mentioning the 10 most dangerous streets), that they just came to repair the street lights this afternoon?
Almost all of them had broken down for a year and suddenly they were here with their crane truck. Coincidence or not ?
Forgot to report the overcrowded Skytrain where we farangs are the target of (foreign) pickpockets. You won't get killed there, but the discomfort is just as great as if you were rolled onto the street.
It seems to me much more sensible that the municipality of Bangkok will deploy more police there and ensure that it becomes safer again
That is a very logical and justified comment, were it not for the fact that we are talking about BKK (Thailand) here…
I once heard someone put it like this, he said “Thailand is the only place in the world where the mafia wears a uniform”… That might be a bit over the top, but think these guys will be fussing about trying to control more practice or bust these gangs? Do you really believe that they will "commit to more security" in the streets of Bangkok?…
Dwarsstraat on ko san road I was also intimidated/threatened. Male suddenly wanted to have 50 euros for the ride. Bye bye! Too bad for him I always have 2 wallets in my pocket in which 1 never contains much money. The other with flaps is in my bra. But paid 3x too much for the ride…
