Miss Megabreak 2011
No, Miss Megabreak 2011 is not a winner of a beauty pageant, where a number of lovely and beautiful ladies parade in front of a jury.
Miss Megabreak 2011 is the winner of the annual big pool billiards tournament, which will be played this year on Saturday 3 December at the Megabreak Poolhall in Soi Diana Pattaya.
We already know the weekly Ladies' Night on every Tuesday, but this tournament is bigger with higher prizes for the winner and the numbers 2 to 4. The first prize is no less than 20.000 Baht and of course that includes a nice trophy .
In addition to the Thai players, who regularly come to Megabreak, less regular Thai players are also expected, not only from Pattaya, but also from Bangkok, for example. Last year there were more than 60 participants and the same number is expected again this year. Not surprising, because the participation fee is only 100 Baht.
This year the tournament will be played with the 8-ball game, in each match it is a race to 3. For 8-ball, in Thailand different rules depending on the pool hall or bar where the game is played. The rules for this tournament are explained in detail in Thai before the start.
The tournament starts at 7 pm and the participants can play for free on the competition tables beforehand. Well, it's a big tournament and so it's already late at night when the big final is played. Not a real problem for those present, because it is first and foremost a fun tournament, where the ladies indulge themselves at the food stalls that present themselves outside and, of course, the occasional drink at the bar. That evening it is like a chicken coop with all those clucking, but often beautiful and charming players.
For more information or pre-registration, the Thai ladies can report to Megabreak's Thai manager, Khun Thep, on mobile number 08 4778 9050. You can register on the day of the tournament, but be on time, because no registrations will be accepted after 7 p.m. more accepted.
That evening, as with the other Megabreak tournaments, I am the Tournament Director (is that a nice title, isn't it?) and I am looking forward to the tournament with great pleasure.

Bert Gringhuis (1945), born and raised in Almelo in the beautiful Twente. Later lived for many years in Amsterdam and Alkmaar, working in export for various companies. I first came to Thailand in 1980 and immediately fell in love with the country. Been back many times since then and moved to Thailand after my (early) retirement as a widower. I have been living there for 22 years now with my somewhat younger Thai lady Poopae.
My first experiences in Thailand as a kind of newsletter sent to family, friends and acquaintances, which later appeared under the name Gringo on Thailandblog. Many, many articles followed those first stories and that has grown into an almost daily hobby.
In the Netherlands still an avid footballer and football referee, but the years are starting to tell and in Thailand still avid, but the pool billiards is really of inferior quality, ha ha!
