FIFA World Cup 2022 free on TV in Thailand
With the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicking off in Qatar in just over a month, football fans in Thailand may be starting to wonder how they will be able to watch the matches.
To date, no company in Thailand has secured the rights to broadcast matches from the tournament, which will be held from November 21 to December 18. However, to reassure fans, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has said it will buy the license rights if private broadcasters fail to do so, to ensure football fans in Thailand can watch the matches.
“Thais should be able to see the World Club live for free as per the 'must-have' rule. If no private operators are interested in purchasing the license, the SAT will buy it," said SAT Governor Kongsak Yodmanee.
Broadcasting regulations set by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission stipulate that major sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup, Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and SEA Games must be available to viewers on free-to-air television.
It is not uncommon for the purchase of broadcasting rights for major tournaments, especially football, to be delayed until the last minute in Thailand. Ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup taking place in Russia, the rights were secured just four weeks before the tournament started.

Bert Gringhuis (1945), born and raised in Almelo in the beautiful Twente. Later lived for many years in Amsterdam and Alkmaar, working in export for various companies. I first came to Thailand in 1980 and immediately fell in love with the country. Been back many times since then and moved to Thailand after my (early) retirement as a widower. I have been living there for 22 years now with my somewhat younger Thai lady Poopae.
My first experiences in Thailand as a kind of newsletter sent to family, friends and acquaintances, which later appeared under the name Gringo on Thailandblog. Many, many articles followed those first stories and that has grown into an almost daily hobby.
In the Netherlands still an avid footballer and football referee, but the years are starting to tell and in Thailand still avid, but the pool billiards is really of inferior quality, ha ha!

Yes, the productivity of the Thai worker and entrepreneur drops by leaps and bounds during the World Cup.
The matches are partly in the evening partly at night, Thai time.
'Bread and games' becomes Leo and football during the World Cup in Thailand.
No wonder that no private TV company has yet shown interest in the broadcasting rights. Those rights cost a lot of money and then you are obliged to make the images available for free………..
It is easy for a floundering government to pay the costs and remind Thai voters next year that they do think about the people.
