Friends football in Pattaya
Because of all the football that is currently coming to us via television from Brazil, I can imagine that there are men who – just like me – think: “Gosh, I would also like to kick a ball again.”
For football fans in Pattaya, there is the possibility to just play football with a few friends on a beautiful synthetic field in Jomtien. In a new magazine, Pattaya Uncovered, I saw an advertisement from the Thaiger Team 04 inviting players of any age or nationality to come and play a game of football.
I went for it in a fit of excitement. From Pattaya to Jomtien, follow the Second Road past the market and at the first major intersection turn left into Soi Boonkanjana. After the housing and shopping block on the right you will see the sign Soi 5 and turn right there. A winding road, a house here and there and suddenly you see the football field on the right.
There were ten football players on the field, all between 30 and 50 years old. The field is actually intended for eight against eight, so it is no wonder that people are calling to participate. No, the level was not high, but of course that is not necessary, it is just fun and relaxing to do something about your condition in this way. Quite a few opportunities were missed to score and I thought as an old-fashioned center forward, I can still score some goals here. Shall I sign up?
I played a lot of football (later became a referee) but after a leg fracture and a broken collarbone a year later (both my own fault), I stopped playing football on the field. Now that I see this football on a small field, my heart says: "Come on dude, join in!" but my mind wins, I must leave to the slightly younger generations.
