René Desaeyere (66) has been in the coaching profession for almost thirty years. And he still can't resist. “The competition in Thailand is just over. My club, Muang Thong United, finished second in the Thai Premier League', emphasizes the Antwerp native.

In 1985 René Desaeyere started his career as a trainer at Dessel Sport. After that he had Standard, Beveren, Germinal, KV Kortrijk, Beerschot and Antwerp under his wing. His last Belgian club was KV Turnhout. In the late XNUMXs, the former professional footballer was also active in South Korea and Japan. In recent years he has been working in Thailand.

'Don't be too condescending about the level in Thailand. I predict that Thailand will soon become one of the emerging countries in international football and be the country that will amaze friend and foe alike. Thailand's champion Buriram United reached the semi-finals of the Asian Champions League. If you know that no Japanese club reached the semi-finals, that says enough. The competition in Thailand has become much stronger across the board. The evolution in the last five years is amazing.'

René Desaeyere used to work as a coach of Muang Thong United

“Three years ago I became champion with that club. I had a contract. But a few months later I had to leave anyway. In April, Muang Thong knocked again. It is highly exceptional that an Asian club takes such a step - bringing back an ex-trainer. For the directors of the club, this is a loss of face. I was active with another Thai first division club BEC Tero Sasana until spring. The club of the Belgian Robert Procureur. He understood that I couldn't say no to Muang Thong. From the moment I took over, my club never lost. Unfortunately we couldn't reach Buriram anymore.'

At the beginning of January 2013, the Antwerp resident is expected to return to Thailand

'The Asia Cup is on the program in December. A country competition for the smaller Asian countries. In which, for example, China and Japan do not participate. Thailand should be able to win. From January, we will prepare for the Asian Champions League and the league. First I can still visit my daughter in the USA at the beginning of December. At Muang Thong I have a Thai assistant. I also have two Spanish trainers on my staff. A fitness coach and a goalkeeper coach. Extremely professional people. I live in a nice apartment in Bangkok. Same as in my previous passage. Nice. Close to the river. Perfect', René Desaeyere smiles.

    Hi Rene,
As a big football fanatic I would like to know if there is a club of any level and class in Phetchabun city or surroundings, maybe I can become your opponent again.
A compatriot and success in the next period.
    Astrix.

I saw René on Belgian TV last week when he was interviewed in the run-up to the friendly match between Belgium and Japan. As you wrote, he has experience with Japanese football. He warned us about the Japanese and rightly so as it turned out. We, the Belgians, were thrashed in-house by a strong, technical and combative team. I am old enough to have known René Desayere as an active footballer. He has had a brilliant career and is now successful as a trainer. That is fully granted to him because he has remained a pleasant, affable and modest fellow.
A few years ago I saw the Thai national team in a match against Liverpool (then on a training camp in preparation for the English league). With growing surprise I saw that the English were completely lost in the first half. In the second half they started to play much more brutal and aggressive and intimidating football so that the Thais eventually had to lose. Too bad, because I wished those arrogant Englishmen a defeat.
Then you already saw that there is a lot of potential in Thai football. I therefore hope that René will continue to do excellent work for a long time to come.
