After Angelina Jolie, world-famous singer Ed Sheeran also treated himself to a traditional one sak yant tattoo. He shared a video on Instagram on Sunday showing him getting tattooed.

The technique for this tattoo does not use a standard needle, but a long bamboo stick or a metal pin, with the metal variant being chosen for Sheeran. Before the session he indicated that he was quite nervous.

The popular British artist, who was in Thailand as part of his tour, chose to have the artwork placed on his leg. He admitted that he found the process anything but enjoyable, saying: “I really wouldn't want to do this every day.”

However, after the tattoo was completed, Sheeran was thrilled with the end result. “Look how beautiful,” he commented as he admired his new ink work in the mirror.

Sak Yant tattoo

A Sak Yant tattoo is a traditional form of tattooing that originated in Southeast Asia, specifically in countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. “Sak” means “to tattoo” in Thai, and “Yant” is derived from the Sanskrit word “Yantra,” meaning instrument or talisman. These tattoos are known for their spiritual and religious meaning and are often associated with protection, luck, strength, and success.

Sak Yant tattoos are traditionally applied by monks or specialized tattoo artists known as Ajarns, who use sacred texts, symbols, and geometric patterns that contain specific powers or blessings. The ink is usually applied with a long bamboo stick or metal rod, which is a distinctive feature of this tattoo art.

The recipient of a Sak Yant tattoo is often given specific rules or regulations that he or she must follow to maintain the magical properties of the tattoo. These rules may vary depending on the specific Yant and the master who applied the tattoo.

Sak Yant tattoos are popular among both locals and foreigners who appreciate the cultural and spiritual significance of this art form. They are often seen as more than just body decoration; for many they are powerful symbols of faith and protection.

    what a fuss!
And then he pretends to be praying “also too” (Brabant expression).
Thai religious tattoos belong to Thai people, they understand them and are usually done in temples by monks.
Certainly not with the entire press present!
This smacks of commercialism, as that beautiful Thai says he can let the world enjoy with it.

Very remarkable because most tattoo artists refuse to place a Sak Yant tattoo below the belt,
    certainly in a temple.
Maybe an exception will be made for some…

I actually thought this too, but apparently there are certain Sak Yant designs that can be placed below the waist. At least that's what he says on the video.
Indeed, it will certainly depend on the person who sets them.
