Home » Reader question » Why does this road sign in BAN KRUT have the English place name CHEDBURGH?
Dear readers,
Does anyone have any idea why this road sign in BAN KRUT shows the English place name CHEDBURGH? (see photo below)
At the top is the Thai text for RESIDENTIAL AREA, REDUCE SPEED.
Regards,
Gust

I don't know why this is there, but I do know that the spelling of that place is sometimes Baan Krood and other times Ban Krut. Also confusing..
Chedburgh is a village in England. There may be friendly ties with the Thai town.
I live in Hua Thale [Korat] I have seen Sjaak in a handful of spellings, TIT
Chedburgh is a hamlet of 5-600 people from what I read, I think they are playing a local joke because of the many mixed relationships with that village.
Also know a Thai woman here who had more Thai friends in the UK than here.
Is it here in Thailand by the way, it is a world strange remark for Thailand, thirty kilometers please. It also does not look 'Thai' at all from the photo. Questions, questions.
Think someone was so noble to help make traffic safer and then did not use his own name (not in vain) but the place of origin. Well done by the way because even a solar panel for lighting and all that together not the cheapest. I also come across people who install speed bumps themselves, with only asphalt or plastic bumps, good initiatives I think to make traffic a bit safer.
