Where can I book a flight ticket for a Schengen visa?
Dear readers,
Where is the best place to book a return ticket for my Thai girlfriend's flight? Is that possible near the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok?
I don't want to pay for the ticket yet, because I don't know if she will get the visa.
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Jan
Editors: Do you have a question for the readers of Thailandblog? Use it contact form..
You can easily make a reservation on the website of an airline. I always use Eva Air for this. Select the flight on the dates you want to use for the visa application. Fill in the name of the passenger. Then you go to the overview page and you can print the overview in PDF. That is sufficient for the visa application.
Then you can close the page and after your girlfriend has received her visa you can book a ticket. This can even be with another company or on other dates (of course within the validity of the visa). It doesn't matter anymore.
I have applied for multiple Schengen visas for my Thai wife in this way (including in 2023) and I have also done this for her new (still pending) application for March 2025.
By the way, I recently did not succeed on the KLM website to get a reservation with the passenger's name on it in PDF without paying. I therefore advise against the KLM website for this purpose.
You can easily buy and pay for a KLM ticket, if you have applied for the visa on time and it is refused, the booking can be cancelled free of charge.
You can also easily buy a ticket from any airline that can be cancelled free of charge.
If the visa is refused, you cancel.
If the visa is granted, you still have the choice to use the ticket or cancel and buy a cheaper ticket.
This way you can simply buy a ticket without any financial risks, and you still have a real ticket and not just a reservation, because that is not always accepted.
By the way, almost every airline also offers the option of cancelling a ticket purchased and paid for online within 24 hours, free of charge, but that still feels a bit like a trick.
