Home » Reader question » Reader question: Lively city by the sea not too far from Bangkok?
Dear readers,
I'm going back to Thailand next year. I normally always go to Hua Hin mainly because it is not that far from Bangkok. Does anyone have any good tips for another city by the sea not too far from Bangkok?
Quite lively. Something similar to Hua Hin and preferably also affordable. Also hotels where you may have already been would be great. Please with swimming pool.
Thank you so much already

Would Petchaburi be nothing? A few beautiful temples, Thai atmosphere, a big big C and closer to Bangkok than Hua Hin. Probably not even that touristy. You always pass it on your way south, but it is still a special place. Only further from the sea. Well near one of the oldest nature park in Thailand.
And then there's Samuth Songkram… Ten things to do there: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g2098662-Activities-Samut_Songkhram_Province.html
But there are actually no real alternatives to Hua Hin.
You don't write what you mean by not far from Bangkok.
Do you mean in terms of distance and travel time by bus or car?
For me, close means the time it takes to get to or from Bangkok.
I then look for airports in the region where I want to see something. (e.g. Koh Samui)
These are also easy to book from the Netherlands and cheap.
Pattaya??
Pattaya? Is even closer to Bangkok than Hua Hin.
Jomtien is a bit quieter, long beach
Maybe Pattaya if you like a vibrant city. Is much bigger and busier than Hua Hin. We have been there for the second time last year and I must say that everything went better than expected. Find a good hotel and you will have a wonderful holiday.
Cha Am, Pattaya and a little further Kong Chang
Sorry was ko Chang
Sri Racha? Chonburi? Laem Chabang? Koh Larn? Or Jomtien, Na-jomtien, Ban Saray.
In jomtien on the coast a studio available: [email protected] for more information.
Bangsean?
Very quiet, beautiful beach, but cozy, only busy on weekends with Thai from Bangkok.
In the side streets of the beach road, many rooms can be booked for 800 Baht per night.
You can rent a scooter for 250 Baht.
Greetings Nico
Jomtien Beach, few km south of Pattaya. Fresher air than in Pattaya, nicer beach, quieter traffic, very wide choice of cheap hotels or studios (I suspect a lot cheaper than in Hua Hin - for 600 baht you have a pretty decent room) at 50 to 100 to 200m from the beach.
Enough fun and for much more 'fun' you can get on a baht bus and you will be in Pattaya in 6 to 8 minutes.
Cha Am
The island of Koh Samet is worth visiting.
3 hours from Bangkok and 1 1/2 hours from Pattaya.
Beautiful beaches and relax with a drink in the Old-Amsterdam bar.
Rayong 60 km further than Pattaya fine beach and good shopping malls and good Hotels. Also close to Koh Samet.
