Dear readers,
Does anyone know if the border to Myanmar at Ranong is open for foreign tourists? I ask this because I am 9 days short of visa days and if possible do not want to pay a 500 baht fine per day when I fly back to the Netherlands from Thailand. I have already used the 1 month extension.
For me, Ranong can be combined well with a few more days of vacation there. Or maybe the border crossing at Pratchuab Kiri Kahn is open?
Regards,
Lex

No border has been opened to tourists in Myanmar. The situation in Myanmar does not allow that. I also don't think you want to be in a country that is de facto in a state of civil war.
Dear Lex,
the borders with Myanmar are still closed to foreigners.
Ranong: where you have the Andman club and also a second border post Kautoung, from the center of Ranong, are closed.
Prachuap Khirikan: Sing Khon border post: is also closed. This will be opened soon but not for foreigners only for Thais..
If you are in the area of Ranong, the nearest border post will be Malaisie.
Today I was able to see that the Mae Sai – Tacilek border crossing – the northernmost in Thailand – is also still hermetically closed.
Ranong border is closed.
I doubt the above comments.
When I booked my trip to Myanmar (March 25, 2023) I did not find a restriction anywhere
that you wouldn't be able to enter Myanmar.
The problem is that for Myanmar – just as I had with Vietnam,
you can no longer make a physical visit to the embassy or checkpoints in advance to obtain a visa sticker or a stamp.
You MUST apply for an e-visa first and with that you can go to the embassy or print out the email they send you and go to the airport with it.
Whether they can scan electronically at the former border posts over land and admit you?
Think no more.
Anyway, they got me, the authority of Vietnam. Booked a flight for tomorrow, but they need at least a week to process the e-request, so… arrived home disappointed the day before yesterday.
The land borders with Thailand are closed. You are talking about flights to and from Myanmar.
The questioner is specifically talking about national borders
Euuuh? Isn't the exit from an international airport crossing a country border?
New to me.
You give the readers the impression that there is no way you can enter Myanmar.
cf. 'no border with Myanmar open to tourists'.
That is not true.
See… the border crossings at the international airports.
So it is still possible to visit Myanmar.
By the way, a very beautiful country.
Think that as many (Western) tourists as possible is better for Myanmar
than to isolate the country from the whole world.
By the way, they don't run you over there with Kalashnikovs, you know, or they put bombs in front of houses. Only the Dutch drug lords in Antwerp do that.
Dear Alphonse,
the questioner is not asking about flying to Mayanmar for a stay or to visit Myanmar. He wants to make a border run in Ranong or Sing Khon. The answers he got here were correct: the borders are closed or did you think he would fly to the Andaman Club or Koutoung by plane? It is clear from his question that he wants to do this by land.
I don't know to what extent this is still current because from June 7, 2022. I couldn't find more recent.
According to MITV (Myanmar International Televisions) it is open, but not for “border runs”.
And I think this could be applied to most overland border crossings with Myanmar.
“Those who hold passports from Thailand and those who are not citizens from Myanmar and Thailand are not allowed to cross the border. ”
