Thailand question: Validity of Belgian passport?
Dear readers,
If I leave for Belgium, will I not have problems at check-in and with the immigration police at Suvarnabhumi if I leave a few days before the "expiry" date of my Belgian passport? I read somewhere that I have to do that, 6 months before my Belgian passport expires.
I think this applies to departure from Belgium to Thailand and not if you return to Belgium from Thailand.
Who can tell me if I'm right?
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Willy (BE)

My friend is in the same case and he has made an appointment with the embassy for Tuesday from Pattaya to renew his passport.
Willy, if you are Belgian you can even enter your country on an expired passport. But that's not your question. I think that a valid passport is sufficient for departure from Thailand. Then a validity of only two days will not be a problem because valid is valid.
If you leave for Belgium, your passport does not have to be valid for 6 months. This is only valid if you travel from Belgium to another country. You can also apply for a provisional passport that is valid for 1 year. Visa issuance, re-entry, etc. can be transferred from your normal passport to the provisional passport.
As long as the passport is still valid, you can check in and fly back to Belgium without any problems.
For the possible return flight to Thailand, you will need a different passport.
So in the last part of your above question you basically already gave the correct answer yourself.
Belgium does not require this. But do the people who check you in know that?
Upon entry, Thai immigration checks everything, but on departure they will not check your passport on that point.
Thank you very much for the many comments!!!
As I thought, I can fly back to Belgium, even if my passport is only valid for 2 days…
