Thai passport for my Thai daughter

Dear readers,

I have a daughter of almost 7 years old, with Thai and Dutch nationality. We now live in Thailand. Her mother passed away. Four years ago, my daughter went to the Netherlands for 3 months with her mother on a Thai passport. I was still living in NL at the time. During that period we also had a Dutch passport made in The Hague and this is still valid. She has not yet traveled on this passport.

Now the question: Her Thai passport has expired. She has no arrival card in her NL passport because this passport has never been used. What would happen if I wanted to leave Thailand now on her Dutch passport without an arrival card? Will immigration make it difficult?

I do want to apply for a Thai passport for my daughter in January. Does anyone know how long this takes? can you get it on the same day or will it be sent later or must it be picked up?

Does anyone have experience applying for a Thai passport for a child without a Thai mother (deceased)? Will my daughter's death certificate and old passport be sufficient or will another family member have to come along?

Regards,

Jan Si Thep

How to travel with two passports:
    – Out of Thailand with the Thai passport.
    – Enter the Netherlands with the Dutch passport.
    – Leave the Netherlands with the Dutch passport
    – Enter Thailand with the Thai passport.

So you don't have to worry about an arrival and departure card (Thai citizens no longer have to fill them in since about 2 years ago, previously they did in part).

In connection with the international agreements on combating child abduction, it is formally the case that both Thai immigration and Dutch immigration (KMar) check with the official whether there is a possible kidnapping when a minor leaves the country. This is done by checking whether the accompanying adult has the authority or permission to take the child and whether the other person with authority over the child has agreed. Officially, each parent must therefore be able to demonstrate at all times that they have parental authority and, if only 1 parent travels, that the other parent either agrees or is no longer in the picture (divorced, deceased, ...). This does not always happen in practice, there is not the capacity to check everyone completely (if we wanted to). But it may be wise to have documents with you that show that the mother has died, so that very diligent officials can check during international travel that you are on the road with your own daughter and are not abducting her. Copy of your daughter's birth certificate and mother's death certificate, I think? Otherwise, search at Thai and Dutch immigration regarding traveling with minor children.

      Rob,

Thank you for your comprehensive answer.
      I can continue with that.

Don't think Imm will accept that. My wife also always travels on 2 passports and forgot to renew her Thai passport for the holiday to NL. She wanted to travel on her Dutch passport, but that was not possible.

To renew your daughter's passport you need:
her birth certificate, house book where she is registered and death certificate of the mother and old passport. Takes up to 7 days, can even be sent to your home, a few weeks ago it only took 3 days for someone you know. Costs around 1000 baht.

Maybe you can arrange a Thai ID card for her right away. From the age of 7 she needs this (compulsory); my daughter is the same age hence i know.

        Hi Ger,

        Thank you for your tip.
She will be 7 years old in February and then I want to apply for the ID card at the amphur.
