Reader question: How can I replace my debit card?
Dear readers,
I opened a bank account with Bangkok Bank 20 years ago. After 3 days my bank card was slid under my hotel door and 2 days later my code. Unfortunately not being able to be in Thailand for the last 6 years, while my Thai bank card has expired. Hope to go this year.
So should replace my debit card just the way in which? Can I immediately get a new one at the counter or go back to the
under the hotel door sliding method? Or can I request a new account with a card at the counter? If the Dutch Rabo states that in the context of combating terrorism all accounts of non-residents will be closed from March, what will Thailand do? It is a non-residence account, so I do not live in Thailand.
Maybe the account has already been closed?
Regards,
Jos
Yes, your account has been canceled!!!!
But your data is still in the system.
I recently opened a new Bangkok Bank account myself, and the system immediately picked up my data from the time I still lived in khon kaen.
So no problem for you to open a new account
success
I assume you also have a passbook.
If there is money in the account, I don't think the account has been closed.
If you go to the counter with your bank book, I think you just get
a new bank card.
I have had an account with Bangkok Bank for 30 years (both in Bangkok and on
Ko Samui). Never had any problems with the BB.
You step into any Bangkok office anywhere in Thailand with your passbook and passport and 15 minutes walk out with a new ATM card.
Think you're going to get responses that are far from what you're claiming now. And I think those people are right. I have several accounts myself, but if married that is indeed simple.
But I think yes is a bit shortsighted for the others.
If your balance has fallen below 2.000 THB and the account has not been used for 1 year, it will be closed.
If the account has not yet been closed, you can immediately receive a new card. If you now have a new passport, please provide a copy of it to replace the old one.

There is an expiration date on the bank card if there is still money in the account, the bank debits the account every year on the due date (now 200 THB). I don't know what happens when the card has expired. My card is valid for 10 years. It is best to send an Emai with the question to the head office in Bangkok. They are usually quick with an answer there and you know from the bank what there is really to do.
Daniel
I'm at the KrungThai bank myself.
2 years ago I wanted to withdraw cash after arriving at Suvarnabhumi. I did not understand the texts on the ATM, but downstairs (at the airport link) is an office of the bank.
There I was told that the pass had expired, they also pointed out the date to me (indeed, hadn't seen it). And was immediately helped with a new pass.
So maybe you don't have to despair and everything will turn out okay.
Dear Josh,
That is no problem at all, just call the Bangkok bank and pass on your account number and you will receive a new card with your pin code.
You have not used your account for 20 years, you write, that is very unique and long, I have heard that the Bangkok bank then deposits 100 Baht per year into your account because you are considered an old customer, a nice bonus 2000, – baht.
P/S please check whether the space under your room door in the hotel is large enough.
realist.
He does not say that he has not used his BB account for 20 years.
He says he opened the account 20 years ago.
He was still in Thailand 6 years ago and probably has the bill then
used (for the last time).
I still have a "dormant" account with the BB that I haven't used in years.
Every year 200 baht is debited for using the ATM card
and interest is charged.
I would just take the comments here with a grain of salt and just
contact the BB.
An interest credit and a cost debit for the ATM card is not regarded by the Bangkok Bank as an activity on the account.

If you do not use the Bangkok Bank account for a year or there is no movement in it, it will be canceled, even though there may be money on it. The Bangkok Bank charges Baht 50-, I thought p/month, if the balance is less than Baht 1000- and you want to keep the account open. Not used for 1 year is out of business, check their website and email them with your questions. This is a blog and not a Bangkok Bank website so you will get all kinds of strange advice.
All strange advice indeed, but they do not necessarily have to be incorrect.
First of all I had a few questions myself, I emailed BB, the answer was that no information is sent by email for security reasons, I just had to call, I called but was on hold for 2 hours, prepaid card was also empty then, the courage then just gave up.
until a year ago there had to be at least 1700 baht (will now be 2000 baht) on the account, with less 150-200 baht per year was debited, with 1700+ a little interest, there is nothing more than the lot canceled after 1 year.
my card is 27 years old and once the ATM card has not been used for 4 years, so my ATM card has no expiration date at all.
Ergo: the same is with emigration, we all experience something different.
