Dear readers,

First of all my compliments for this site. Every day I enjoy reading all the news from Thailand.

I was previously infected by the Thailand virus, but since my husband and children were able to see Thailand with their own eyes last year, they have also been infected. After last year's success, we are going to Thailand again this year.

Since we are bound by the school holidays of the children (5 and 6 years old), I have booked tickets for the first 3 weeks of July. Last year I didn't book much in advance. We did a lot of preliminary work in advance, and sent an email on the spot to an accommodation for the next destination.

This year we will start in Bangkok and from there want a day trip to Kanchanaburi and a day trip to Ayutthaya. After that I would like to continue traveling to the (North) East. I think it would be a great experience to be able to see something of the real (non-touristy) Thailand. I would like to stay here for about 4 to 5 days. After that I would like to travel to Koh Chang.

Does anyone here have any tips for us? How can I best handle this? We prefer not to rent a car. Unless everyone here indicates that this is really easy to do, but I have my doubts. What are nice hotels, also suitable for children. Does anyone have experience with renting a car with driver/guide?

I have already been able to find a few things on the internet, but often you have to hire someone for a longer period of time, and we would rather not do that. We are more the type of people; if it's good, we'll stay a day longer, if it's not, we'll continue traveling immediately 🙂

The children prefer a hotel with a swimming pool, but if this is not the case, then it is no different. We do want to keep in touch with the home front, so internet is very desirable. Oh yes, flying is not an option (to save time); my husband is already getting pills for the flight to Thailand, so an extra domestic flight is not an option.

Which places in Isan (within our 5 day time frame) should we really see? And my last question; what is a nice, not too luxurious accommodation on Koh Chang. Preferably close to the beach (sand and not directly deep sea), but also not too far from the shops, restaurants, etc. Here too I can find enough of this on very beautiful sites, but I prefer to hear the experiences of people who, for example, last year been here and have fond memories of it.

Thank you very much!

Petra

    Hello

Take a look at: info@tulip-thailand. com

This is a Dutchman who lives in Khon Kaen and has a nice bus and is a driver and knows a lot.

We have had very good experiences with it for many years.

    Succes

That Dutchman may of course never act as a guide, provided he has a work permit.
My husband went with some acquaintances to see some tourist temples, etc., but was stopped by the Thai police, where he went with those people, and he was asked for his work permit as a guide, so I mean .... be careful with performing a “profession” you are really not happy when you end up at immigration.
Greetings Ria (we have been living in Thailand for more than 6 years)

      Hi Patrick,

I would love to hear your experiences after staying at the hotel.
On the internet it does indeed seem like a great hotel!

I also only booked based on the reviews and am curious myself. Will write you back what I thought of it. Gr Patrick

The Hotel that Patrick links is indeed a fairly new Hotel with swimming pool.
It seems that it can often be rented for 900 baht per room per day.
Children in the same room usually have a small surcharge for additional beds.
A friend of mine regularly goes there to swim there.

Because you indicate that you only have 5 days, a tour of the northeast may be too much of a good thing. Closer to Bangkok you could go to Suan Phung and Wangnamkieo. Both very beautiful areas are indeed touristic, but not yet discovered by the foreign tourist. Suan Phung is the westernmost part of Ratchaburi province (immediately south of Kanchanaburi) and Wangnamkieo is an extension of Khao Yai in Nakorn ratchasima province.
    Lots of fun.

Hello Frans, I think this is just too far away for us. But it does look very nice!

We did something similar last winter. Rented a car at the airport, driving ourselves is fine with us. We did the following route: Bangkok – Phetchabun – Loei (there are several beautiful national parks between Phetchabun and Loei) – Chiang Khan – Nong Khai – Udon Thani and from there by plane back to Bangkok, but you can also go by car back to Bangkok on highway 2. We did this in a week. The following week we went to Koh Chang and stayed at KB Resort in Kae Bae (www.kbresort.com), a very nice resort right on a quiet beach.

    Hallo,
Tonight we are back in Holland after enjoying 6 weeks in Thailand, this was our 9th holiday in 5 years in Thailand. The above ideas are very nice, I will certainly take advantage of them for the next holiday to Thailand in January (unfortunately we have to still being worked on)
In the north we flew to Chiang Rai with Nok Air for the 5th time, owner (Dutch owner) of Home Stay will pick you up from the airport, small resort with 9 rooms and swimming pool in the middle of the countryside. Enjoyed our 3 weeks of the beach in Prachuap kiri kan, at Ao Manao beach, beautiful quiet beach hotel with swimming pool 900 Bath, nice local restaurants, highly recommended.
I wish Petra and her family a lot of fun reading all the good tips, and enjoy your holiday.

Try taking a bus from Chiang Rai to Fang or Tha Ton. From Tha Ton, Songthaews go to beautiful Santhikiri (Doi Mae Salong) three times a day. A great village high in the mountains where refugees from the Yunan region (China) once fled. That results in a somewhat crazy situation.

Chinese signs everywhere, Chinese food, etc.

Very special, and almost no tourists 🙂 Really difficult to reach,

    • Sjoerd V says up

Sorry, I mean a bus from Chiang Mai. Not Chiang Rai. (It's also possible from that side, but with two Songthaews), it's too steep into the mountains for a bus.
