Home » Reader question » Reader question: How can I see my girlfriend and son again in Thailand?
Dear readers,
I have had a girlfriend in Thailand for more than 10 years, together we have a 3,5 year old son. I haven't seen them since February. What are my options for flying to them?
I would like to hear from you.
Regards,
Peter
I don't know if you've followed the news here a bit, but so far no possibilities. Or you have to join that Thailand Elite club. If it costs an amount of 5 figures (in euros!) but then you may be allowed as early as September if that government plan goes ahead.
I myself have followed the news here on this blog and therefore know that for someone who is not married and has a child in Thailand, one can apply to go to Thailand. I myself am in the same situation as Peter and now know that I can return, but I will wait for the official messages, because perhaps the regulation will be relaxed in a while and you can go into home quarantine instead of being obliged to stay in a hotel for 2 weeks. .
Thanks for the addition Ger-Korat. Then I must have missed that news item somewhere.
Good luck and hopefully you can go to your family soon! And Peter too of course!
Peter, you don't say where your family lives, but mine lives 4 km from the border with Laos, 30 km from Vientiane. If Thailand continues to be difficult for Europeans, I will investigate Laos and ask the family to come to Laos. As border residents, they are in Laos with a simple form. Then it will be a short visit but that's better than nothing at all. And otherwise it could well be 2021 and you also look at overcrowded planes because then suddenly everyone wants ……
Is the border of Laos open? if it is the case that the Thai easily get to Laos, I don't know if they come back if they don't have to stay somewhere in a quarantine hotel for 14 days, the fear is in Thailand that covid-19 will come back via abroad, I don't think the borders will open before 2021.
The border with Laos is in any case closed in Savannakhet and Eros has no idea that it will open soon
If you are officially registered as the father of your Thai son and you can prove that, you must contact the embassy and then there are options.
Contact the embassy.

1 Possibility:
As the father of a Thai national, you can go to the Thai embassy in the Netherlands (or if you live in Belgium, of course there) and ask for a Certificate of Entry. A number of documents are required for this, including a copy of your girlfriend's passport and a copy of your son's (Thai) birth certificate stating you as the father.
You must take into account that after arrival in Thailand you must be quarantined for 14 days, at your own expense, in a hotel designated by the Thai government. You must register in advance for this (because of course there is a limited amount of available rooms).
You should also (carefully) take into account that you may also have to go into quarantine after returning to the Netherlands or Belgium. Not yet mandatory, but the situation could change quickly. If you are still working, you should ask yourself how your employer deals with days off.
If you are not listed as the father on the birth certificate, there is no possibility.
Earlier this week it was in the news that the route is open the other way around.
Your wife and child can therefore come to the Netherlands.

The Dutch (Schengen) border has been open to Thai nationals since the beginning of July. A Thai with a (valid) Schengen visa can therefore return to the Netherlands for a short stay.
If you marry her then you can go to Thailand more easily.
Hi,
That is unfortunately not the case, Jan..
I myself married my Thai wife in March, but the same rules apply to me regarding entry and quarantine.
If you bring the family here, you have to think about how they're going to get back.
This will also be a challenge.
And if you have to stay in a hotel in Thailand for 14 days after your return, I don't know if that is so nice for your 3,5 year old child.
I myself also have my wife in Thailand for 6 years, would leave on July 24, of course it will not take place, and I have postponed it to December, with the hope that this will continue.
If this trip is canceled again, I will start an MVV procedure so that my family can come here but then not necessarily have to return after 90 days.
This was always the intention, but only in a few years, but now I want to accelerate it.
If she then has a MVV, she can just stay here and start building a future together.
This covid madness has shaken me up that when a government determines that no more foreigners enter a country, this really happens. I find this very sad and inhumane.
and it is also dangerous. Just look at the stranded people who actually have all their belongings in Thailand and were only visiting NL. they are now even watching family or even their ex for months. Can't get anywhere and don't even see their own wives and children.
When I retire immediately, I am sure that I will also keep my house in NL and remain registered.
Gr Michael
Contact the Thai embassy to ask what the possibilities are.
I am legally married in the Netherlands and would like to go to Thailand with my Thai wife because of her mother's poor health. Called the embassy. Was on hold for 2 hours and then disconnected. emails are not answered.
Just tell me how I get good information. Here on the blog only conflicting answers and helmsmen who are ashore and think they know it.
Greetings Addie
