Ernst, I assume you mean Roi Et (meaning 101), the province, or the capital which is also called Roi Et? In that case, the Flemings living there will report.

I find it funny how they came up with that name
“The name of the province literally means 'one hundred and one' (Thai: ร้อยเอ็ด; RTGS: roi et ). Correctly, the number should be “eleven” (Thai: สิบเอ็ด; RTGS: sip et ), as the province was named after its eleven ancient gates built for its eleven vassal states. In ancient times, the number “eleven” was written “๑๐๑” (101) and the provincial name was written accordingly. Later, people took “๑๐๑” to mean 'one hundred and one' and have since then called it “Roi Et”

    Hi Ernst,

I (Belgian, Fleming, Limburger) have been living in Pattaya, Bang Lamung for several years, but will move to Roi Et… more specifically Moei Wadi next month.

Always nice to get in touch with people who speak the same language.

    Greetings,
    Luc

Dear Luc, I am also a Fleming from the Antwerp Kempen and have been living in Nongprue for 17 years now, a village belonging to Banglamung. I also spend a lot of time in my wife's native village in the province of Roi Et, but I don't really want to meet people who also speak my language. If I wanted to, I would have been better off living in Belgium anyway. Then I could do that every day.

    Hi Ernst.

    I live in At-Samat.
    Approx.35 km. from Roi-Et.
Have been living in Thailand for 5 years now.
I am Dutch but from Roosendaal close to the Belgian border.
Have lived in Essen myself for a few years.
I don't know which way you live 15 km. from Roi-Et.
So if you want contact let me know e-mail address is: [email protected].
    Greetings Christ.

Then you must have known Louis, a Dutchman. He also lived in Roi Et. Very good man and sadly passed away last year. I always visited him when I went that way. His wife, Moutje, had family living here in Chumphon, Ta Sae, so they came this way at least once a year and we could see each other here, was really a crumb of a guy. I miss him regularly.

Here's a NLder from deep in the south, born just a few km from Lommel (in Luyksgestel). Often visited Lommel because it was much nicer than going to the big city of Eindhoven; film, shopping, but especially a delicious Burgundian lunch or dinner was simply much more relaxed and established there. That is why we usually made the Groenplaats, the Keyserlei and the Grote Markt 'unsafe' in Antwerp at Christmas.

Have been living for some years now in Phanom Phrai, about 75 km SE of Roi-Et and about 40 km from At Samat. Pass the latter and visit the former quite regularly. At least every 3 months before going to Immigration, but sometimes in between. Although we have also gone swimming in AS

Enjoy the quiet life here, but I can't really remember the last time I talked to a Dutchman or Belgian. 🙂
And the woman still says regularly that she wants to spend Christmas in Antwerp again.

So it is a bit further away and again a NLder, but if that is not a problem: [email protected]

    And another Dutchman.
I am in Thailand as much as possible and then 12 kilometers from Roi Et city.
We have about 8 people, a kind of Dutch acquaintances group.
Have a meal with a group (you), or just meet up somewhere.
Personally, I don't know a single Belgian in Roi Et, but there will certainly be.
Unfortunately for personal reasons and covid19, now trapped in NL. but hope to come again soon.
If another NLder can join: [email protected]
