Reader question: By bus from Ayutthaya to Sukhothai
Dear readers,
In July we are going to Thailand with our family. On our way through we visit Ayutthaya. We want to travel to Sukhothai that same evening. Now it appears that only trains with seats leave for Sukhothai in the morning.
A bus is also an option, but now my question is, do you have to order those tickets for the bus in advance (online) or can you buy them on the spot? And where should you take that bus, because I can't find an address where those buses are and what are the departure times of that bus?
Greetings,
tanka

Dear Tanka,
Maybe you should take a look here:
http://www.thailandee.com/en/transportation-thailand/bus/buses-from-ayutthaya-to-sukhothai
Mind you, it's a 389 km trip, so you'll just be on the bus for 7-8 hours. I doubt if you will still be fresh the next day…
An alternative is of course also a taxi, especially with 3-4 people. Think about 4000 baht for the ride.
Info Thailand blog:
Bus
Ayutthaya has two bus terminals. City bus number 5 connects both bus terminals.
In the middle of Ayutthaya is a small bus terminal for regional buses on Thanon Naresuan in the northeast of the old city - next to the Chao Phrom market (see map). Buses to and from Bangkok (arrival at Mo Chit bus station via Don Meuang) do not stop here but about 200 meters west on Thanon Naresuan. The minibuses (to Victory Monument) also stop here.
Destinations such as Phitsanulok, Sukothai and Chiang Mai can be reached by bus from the long-distance terminal 4 kilometers east of the city on provincial road 309 (Thanon Rojana). The bus station is a bit hidden opposite the Ayutthaya Grand hotel (see on the far right of this map).
Train
The train connects Ayutthaya with Bangkok and the north (Lop Buri, Phitsanulok, Chiang Mai) and northeast (Ubon Ratchthani, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Nong Khai) of the country. All trains on the Northern Line (timetable) and Northeastern Line (timetable) routes stop in Ayutthaya. The station is located across the river (seen from the city) and you can get there by ferry 10 minutes walk from the hotels and guesthouses on the east side of the city. See the map.
On the way to Bangkok, the train also stops at Don Meuang station, Bangkok's airport with some domestic destinations.
There is no train station in sukhotai. The nearest is pitsanulok, about 60 km away.
Leaves at a 7-Eleven.
Large double road not behind the center.
There is a container where you can book.
Just (instead of not) six-lane road behind the center.
Hi,
From Ayutthaya you can travel by train to Phitsanulok. From there you can take the bus (close to the station and within 5 minutes by tuk tuk) to Sukhothai. This bus runs very regularly and takes about 1 hour.
Good trip,
Corrie
I did this 10 years ago and hadn't booked anything then. If you search Ayutthaya bus station on google maps, there is a telephone number, even in a hotel, they can help you.
chance,
i have also been to ayutthaya last year, and this year i am going to SUKHOTHAI.
However, I do go by plane, bangkok airways, barely 30 euros for a single ride, and you are there in 1 hour.
maybe consider this, instead of sitting on a cross-eyed bus for 8 hours?
Dear Tanka,
Why not spend the night in Ayutthaya or the surrounding area and return to Sukhothai rested the next day?
In this way you don't lose any time and it is all much more relaxed and pleasant for a holiday.
Don't underestimate the distances and times to travel. In addition, the higher tropical temperatures and humidity.
Have a nice holiday,
Lodewijk
Don't rush, it's vacation!
Stay overnight and travel the next day, best by taxi.
Hey thanks for the responses, but couldn't we also rent a minibus in Auyththaya to take us to Sukhotai? Anyone have any idea what this would cost? We have to arrive in the evening because we have already booked a hotel! Or else skip Auytthaya and do Sukhotai, but I think we will miss something very beautiful!
