Reader question: With the ferry from Satun to Langkawi, what about a visa for Malaysia?
Dear readers,
If we go from Thailand with Ferry from Satun to Langkawi (and return) will a visa be arranged on the spot?
We are now in Thailand and have not arranged a visa for Malaysia. Our Thai visa expires after 60 days. How do we best approach this in terms of visa and stay on Langkawi?
Greetings,
Mariska

No visa required for Malaysia Langkawi, just fill in a ticket and you will receive it upon entry to Langkawi
Haha, no visa needed 🙂 That's a good one. They drop you by boat in the harbor of Langkawi. There is a Malaysian immigration office and you can get a visa on arrival there.
Fill in ID paper, hand over passport, wait and pay. Same if you come from Koh Lipe or the like.
Sure, Nick, holders of a Dutch passport can stay in Malaysia for 3 months without a visa. Only the date of entry will be stamped in your passport upon arrival. So check your information from now on........
Mariska,
It is hoped that you have a re-entry visa for Thailand, otherwise you will receive a stamp for 15 days after entering T., because you will cross the border by land. You also invalidate the visa for the remaining time in T. by leaving the country without re-entry. So think carefully about what you are planning.
regards Joy
There is also a mainland border crossing about 25 km from Satun, located in “Taliban” nat.park.
Crossing the border to Malaysia, do not fill in a paper yourself, then return to Thailand.
When leaving Thailand, you must also fill in the part of the ticket that will be stapled in your passport when you entered Thailand after filling it in on the plane by immigration at the airport. You step with your passport two minutes through the Malaysian immigration on the left, around the small building and you show your passport to the Malay there. A few meters further at the Thai immigration you get to fill in such a new ticket. If you do not have a visa for Thailand with 'multiple entry', you must leave the country within 15 days, barring special fuss. At least, that's how it was. Last week a not necessarily reliable source told me that now also when entering by land, a visa on arrival for 30 days as before would only be given via seaport or airport. However, it was not about a Dutchman or a Belgian. However, check that if 15 days would not be enough for you and you do not have multiple entry visas for a longer period of time.
The last twenty kilometers to the border post are a very nice route. A few waterfalls are also accessible outside the aforementioned [if visited, to be paid] nature park. Usually it is a very quiet border post so you only have to stay away from your vehicle on the Thai side for fifteen minutes. When I was there about three years ago, everyone on both sides of the border was also very friendly and helpful.
That border crossing at Thale Ban is at Khuan Don (and Wang Kelian in Malaysia), well and at least 40 km from Satun (road numbers 406 and 4184). I wasn't there 3, but I was 4 years ago, then a very good job.
