Home » Reader question » Emergency call from Dutchman in Nongkhai due to debt with loan shark
Dear readers,
We have to pay a deposit of 550 euros to the loan shark tomorrow. That is why I want to ask if there are Dutch people who want and can help me with 20.000 baht. On November 22, I will receive my income, but unfortunately the payment to the loan shark has to be made tomorrow.
I therefore ask for the help of fellow Dutch people in Nongkhai. On November 22, I will go to the bank together with the person who helped me and give back the 20.000 baht, together with 2.000 baht interest as a thank you for the offered help.
I have been married to a Thai woman for 10 years, my wife is having problems and is at her wits end.

Thank you very much for posting my call Thailandblog
I was able to receive 2 fellow Dutch people from Udonthani at my home,
Both fellow Dutchmen helped me by giving 10.000 baht each, which they will get back on November 22 and they did not want to receive any interest on this, which is a very generous gesture from these people.
These very helpful fellow countrymen do not want to be named, which I of course respect very much.
This has helped us get out of trouble, my sincere thanks to my fellow Dutch people and of course the posting of my emergency call on Thailandblog
Greetings Peter and Thun from the beautiful Nongkhai.
Nice gesture from those 2 Dutchmen. I understand that it has now been resolved but you must now strengthen the grip (unfortunately have to use this word) on your wife so that she does not make the same mistake again while you probably knew nothing about it!
At the time, I proposed to the loan shark to pay off the original (นอกระบบ) debt with the legally permitted maximum interest of 15% per year (that is 1,15^(1÷12) –1 = 1,17% interest per month or 1,15^(1÷365) –1 = 0,0383% per day), minus the amount already repaid. So 1,17% interest per month (0,0383% per day) on the outstanding debt since the debt was incurred.
Ultimately, this was agreed upon.
Unfortunately, it happens quite often that Thais use these antisocial people for lack of collateral, not realizing that they will pay until the end of their days. A 'friend rate' is 10% interest per month (that is 1,10^12 -1 = 214% per year), 'normal' is 20% per month (that is 1,20^12 -1 = 792% per year) and it also happens that 5% per week is charged (that is 1,05^52 -1 = 1164% per year).
I hope Peter and Thun never get involved with those people again.
Only in a life-or-death emergency would I imagine people would borrow money from those louts.
