Dear readers,

Can someone help me apply for a tax credit, and am I eligible for it since I live in Thailand, near Pattaya?

Please send your comments to my email address: [email protected]

Burt, when you talk about 'tax credit', you are talking about the NL tax authorities, 2024 return. If you have not emigrated from NL, so not deregistered from the BRP, you can still use tax credits, as is customary in NL.
If you are deregistered from the Netherlands for the entire year, you will no longer receive any tax credits, social security premiums or ZVW contributions.
If you left during 2024, then only discounts for that part of the year that you still lived in the Netherlands. Suppose you left the Netherlands on September 30th and landed in BKK on October 1st, then you are still entitled to 3/4 tax credits, etc. You can also calculate per day: 1 full year has 360 days at the tax authorities.

      Dear Joseph,

Now that's a coincidence with the dates you mentioned.
I myself was deregistered from the Netherlands on October 1 and have therefore been liable for tax in Thailand since that date.
I spent the entire year 2024 in Thailand.
It is true that the wage tax has been reduced considerably since October 1, but it is still applied.
I am now 56, with age-related retirement and receive a benefit from the ABP based on the Former Military Personnel Benefits Act.
benefit. Wage tax is therefore still applied.

Joseph, within our language borders there are different names for the same things.

If I may recommend something to prevent misunderstandings, there is a difference between 'social insurance' and 'national insurance'. The risk of unemployment and disability is insured as an employee and employer with a 'social insurance' such as the WW and the WIA; the fact that you are getting old, single after a relationship or need long-term care is nationally insured with the national insurances AOW, ANW and WLZ.

Unfortunately, that whole package together is colloquially called 'social premiums'. And that will probably never wear off, just like Bert Burger calls the AOW 'My pension'...

Erik, everyone understands what is meant in the context of the question. Someone lives in Pattaya and he is busy with his NL tax return. Then Jozef's answer is sufficient. If that man were just on holiday in TH, then he would really not be concerned with NL tax authorities for those weeks of absence. What do we care about what is put into national insurance or social insurance. That is a tax-technical issue and we will continue to talk about social premiums and pensions if AOW is meant. Let it go, man!
