Dear readers,

My wife has a permanent job as a cook for 40 hours a week and has amassed a nice amount of savings. Because we plan to live in Thailand in a year or two (preferably in Khonkaen, but possibly also Nongkhai or Udon), she wants to start investing her savings in the purchase of a house now. However, the amount saved is not enough to buy a house in Thailand in cash. She will therefore have to take out a mortgage for the remainder (say half of the purchase price).

However, I wonder whether Thai banks are willing to provide a mortgage loan to a (Thai) non-resident?

To be clear, I, as a farang, am completely outside of this. So it's not about whether I can take out a Thai mortgage or problems with the Land Office. It will be her house and everything will be in her name alone.

Do any readers have personal experience with this? If so, at which bank?

Regards,

Jimmy B Good

Hello, yes, we have done it ourselves, you should contact Sungate.com if I remember correctly.
They can help you with this, otherwise you can also contact us and we can help you.

    Thanks for the quick response.

Sungate.com appears to be a website that focuses on communications technology, but we did a little more digging and found that it is probably Sungateway (amazingthaiproperty.com). Is that right?

In any case, we have written to them and will certainly take advantage of the offer to ask for help if we need more information.
