Working temporarily in the Netherlands but living in Thailand and what are the consequences for payroll taxes?
Dear readers,
I have been hired to do a project in NL for 4 to 5 weeks. We have agreed that I will travel to NL for that period and stay there. I will be on the payroll of the NL company.
My question is how much payroll tax should be withheld?
The other weeks I live in Thailand, so I am also liable to pay taxes here.
Regards,
Rob
Editors: Do you have a question for the readers of Thailandblog? Use it contact form..
Mr Rob, please discuss this with the payroll administration of the Dutch company and simply go to a Dutch tax administration office to arrange it for tax purposes in the Netherlands.
I would simply 'keep' those 4 to 5 NL project weeks in the Netherlands and not bother Thailand with them.
What you don't know won't hurt you.
We shouldn't become rigid in such matters, should we?
They don't need to know about this here. Have compassion for Thai officials, don't give them a headache. 🙂
Please note that if you have a 5-year tax exemption in the Netherlands due to living in Thailand, you will lose that exemption.
Then you will bring money for 4-5 weeks of NL project work. 🙂
You can reclaim the withheld wage tax in 2026 with a C form. The percentage withheld depends on many factors.
Rob, your situation is governed by the treaty; article 15, the 183-day article. Your employer will take that up with the payroll administration or the hired service agency. You can find the treaty here: wetten.nl (space) Thailand.
Forget the questionable call to commit fraud, in any country. YOU can sit on the blisters later, and his name will soon be hare…
You are not insured for the national insurances so you would pay wage tax in the lowest bracket, there is no longer any right to tax credits. If you have other income from the Netherlands, it is advisable to fill in a C form
