Home » Reader question » How to arrange a visa and work permit yourself as a Cambodian in Thailand
Dear readers,
I have been in a happy relationship for 6 years with a Cambodian woman who has lived in Thailand for 30 years.
Every 2 years she has to renew her visa, work permit and health insurance. This is done through a dubious intermediary who confiscates her passport for months and asks a lot of money for it.
I think there should be another way, does anyone have experience with this?
Regards,
Freek

Dear Frank,
Take some time to visit the immigration office responsible for your region and inquire about the possibilities and the necessary documents for work permit and visa matters.
Contact the company that issued the health insurance
During an informational conversation, don't mention names – so don't immediately throw your girlfriend's identity on the table.
It's a safety net in case what you call a 'dubious' person was actually doing illegal things in the past.
You can also consult a lawyer to obtain the necessary information.
You will become much smarter and act correctly – handing over passports for long periods is certainly not the right and safest way. Spending a lot of money on it is also not the right solution.
Good luck and a safe solution
Dear,
It doesn't seem difficult to me to arrange it myself.
Health insurance is a matter of paying the premium on time.
You can arrange a visa at an immigration office.
Work permit from the relevant ministry. Picked up on the internet * Work permit application is processed in the Ministry of Labor office.* just type in * where to get a work permit * and follow the explanation.
Doing it yourself takes quite a bit of time and if your wife works, she will need to get the necessary days off from her employer.
If that is difficult, find another agency that works more efficiently.
Success!
Cambodians are really exploited when working in Thailand and it is only getting worse for them. You could try to get a new Cambodian passport made for 200 dollars with which she can travel and go where she wants because Cambodia is a member of Asean and have free movement. Working is another matter and especially working for a Thai employer. It doesn't really pay off considering the money you have to pay to various middlemen.
You don't say on what basis she is staying in Thailand.
Every 2 years you say which is strange, but maybe she is here on Non-LA visa?
Her employer can take care of all that, as well as her work permit and insurance, because he will also have to provide her with the necessary documents.
Maybe you can use this Only available in Thai
Visa (VISA) แรงงานต่างด้าว 4 สัญชาติ NON LA
Regulation of visa extension documents (VISA) for foreign workers of 4 nationalities Non-LA
Please note that it says. Foreigners must come and perform the procedure themselves. With the employer or their authorized representative By making an online reservation on the Immigration Bureau website 1

And maybe they can be of some help to you. Please inquire
