From a survey of Travel + Leisure Southeast Asia it appears that Thailand still the No. 1. destination among readers.

The main conclusions from the study:

  • The number of business trips and vacations in the region increased compared to 2010.
  • Travelers think price is less important than brand loyalty.
  • Travelers spent more on location in 2011.
  • Thailand is the main destination.

The survey among readers of the magazine and the digital version yielded 568 respondents from countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Indonesia.

The results also show that readers of the glossy magazine prefer to fly with Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Thai Airways. The accommodations that are booked are mainly four and five star hotels.

Publisher Robert Jan Fernhout says that the popularity of the destinations has not changed compared to last year: “Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Bali always end up high on the list. Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan and China also score high marks. Outside of Asia and Europe, Australia and New Zealand in particular are emerging destinations for affluent Asians.”

Travel + Leisure is one of the largest travel and lifestyle magazines in the world with 5 million readers worldwide. The Southeast Asia edition is available in 12 countries in the region.
