Many tourists who visit Thailand also make a trip to Cambodia to visit the world famous Angkor Wat  in Siem Reap province. Remarkable is the news that a Dutch tourist has destroyed a statue in the ancient Cambodian temple complex. The woman said she was under the influence of a strange force.

The tourist did not return to her driver after visiting Angkor Wat and the Bayon temple. She was found by staff the next morning. The police called in that, because staying overnight in the World Heritage is prohibited. Only after the woman had already been released did security guards discover the remains of a Buddha statue on the floor of the Bayon temple.

The woman, a Dutch woman living in New Zealand, admits that she destroyed the one meter high statue. According to her, it did not belong in the temple. She thinks she was possessed by strange powers during the night. "I wasn't myself," she told NOS.

“A voice told me to clean up the temple because it was the temple of the goddess Innana and not Buddha.” The Dutch, who says she is not religious, toppled the statue after the voice instructed her to meditate on the spot of the statue.

The woman herself says that the statue is a replica of the ancient original. That could also explain why the Cambodian authorities let her go without a fine.

The richly decorated Khmer temple was built in the 12th century and is part of Angkor, which also includes the world-famous Angkor Wat temple. The complex is partly overgrown by lianas and jungle and is on the UN World Heritage List.

She confirmed that she had not been wrongly accused of the damage.
But so they say, I was there at the right time and at the right time, “It was a fake statue anyway.”

    It wasn't fake at all,
For a Cambodian report says the statue dates from the late 12th century, but was split into several pieces when later discovered and restored in 1988.

This person is just out of her mind. Better to stay at home than to travel

well done that man. Would rather stay home. Make her pay for the damage done, she may hear different voices from her bank manager next time.
