Happy Chinese New Year: The Year of the Ox
Chinese around the world are celebrating it today new Year, from the ox, with the congratulatory wish: "Gong Xi Fa Cai!", the festivities last no less than 15 days. If you want to experience some of that, visit Chinatown in Bangkok.
For the Chinese this is the beginning of the year 4719 and that is celebrated worldwide. In the Netherlands and Belgium, this fact is also celebrated by the Chinese community with lots of red decorations, fireworks, performances, gifts and good food. In Thailand, extra tourists are normally expected during this period, but unfortunately not now due to the pandemic. Thailand has a large Chinese community and many Thai people have Chinese ancestors.
The Year of the Ox
If you were born in the year of the ox, you are powerful and reliable, a born leader, a hard worker, prefers to choose the shortest route, gentle and patient, but can also be quite stubborn, sometimes stubborn.
According to tradition, Buddha called all the animals before he died. Twelve would have turned up: first the rat, then the ox, tiger, hare, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and finally the pig.
