A balloon released in June during a school party in the French village of Limalonges has resurfaced six months later on a beach in Thailand. The director of the school reported this to AFP news agency. The balloon traveled no less than 14.000 kilometers.

The 90 students of the school in Limalonges, Poitou-Charentes region, released balloons on June 25, according to annual tradition. “The little cards on the balloons, on which the address of the school was written, were plasticized. We forgot to add 'France'.

After all, we often get tickets back, but usually the balloons are found in another French place, such as Cognac or La Rochelle,” says the director, Estelle Boutet.

Thai fisherman

She received a postcard in mid-January from a Thai man who found the balloon on a beach on December 17. “I was walking on the back of an elephant on the beach when I saw a balloon,” writes the Thai man.

“I live in Siam, Rayong province. I am a fisherman and have a boat. It was not easy for me to find your country on a map.” The Thai man had written his text partly in Thai and partly in French. The envelope containing the postcard was stamped on December 27 and arrived at the French school on January 17. Between June 25 and December 17, the balloon traveled 14.000 kilometers.

Yes, and Sinterklaas also exists. Have you ever organized a balloon competition in the Netherlands? 99 out of 100 were found in the middle of the Netherlands, because of the southwest wind. One came out in Den Helder. The furthest distance, but the prize was not awarded.
Give me your balloon, I'm going to Pattaya soon! 🙂

It also seems strong to me that a balloon stays in the air for so long; after 24 hours a gas balloon will come down again. Agree with gerrieQ8 that Sinterklaas also exists and next week there will be an article in the newspaper that someone played a joke and dumped the balloon somewhere near Rayong
