Have you ever sighed: 'The youth of today…'? It is a complaint of all times and he is also called in Thailand heard. But it can also be different.

Five teams of students proved this when their creative invention won Gold at the International Exhibition for Young Inventors, an annual international competition that was held this year in Bangkok.

How about a hoola hoop that acts as a charger for a mobile phone? It is the brainchild of Apisit Wannarancsri and Jukkit Buppha of the Samutsakhon Wittayalai school. The electricity is generated when the 12 magnets in the hoola hoop interact with a copper wire wrapped in fabric and sewn into a belt. The alternating current is converted into direct current, which can be used to charge a mobile phone.

Or how about catching flies with a three day shrimp as bait? Two girls, Varunyou Dropphupha and Kannika Chaisiri from Hat Yai Wittayalai 2 school came up with the idea because they discovered that flies are attracted to this delicacy. They constructed a conical shaped trap, which contains water at the top. The flies that fly in automatically fall into the water. A CD prevents them from escaping and also ensures that they die quickly. According to the creative girls, the device can outwit a thousand flies in one hour.

Also nice: a sailing 'vacuum cleaner' or, as they call it, 'water garbage collector using solar energy'. Nutthawat Boonrueng and Natipong Yaphasert of the San Kamphaeng school in Chiang Mai built a boat with a 12-volt battery that is charged by a solar cell. The battery provides the power for propulsion and a conveyor belt that scoops waste out of the water. Three kilograms can collect the alternative garbage boat. There is work to be done because many khlongs are full of rubbish and water hyacinth.

Teams from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The teams from Malaysia scored gold seven times. Thailand In addition to five gold medals, it also won silver seven times and bronze eighteen times.
