New research shows that 44% of people would like to be a borderless traveler. Despite this, 63% now say that they do not get the most out of a holiday. It also appears that 20% have never really felt 'boundless', according to Booking.com.

Travelers are concerned about a language barrier. At least 28% indicate that this can hinder them when booking a trip and 20% are afraid of getting lost. It also hinders the search for suitable accommodation (34%) and 26% are concerned about unfamiliar situations while travelling.

When asked what could alleviate concerns about future travel, they say:

  • good accommodation options (37%):
  • positive reviews (35%):
  • the ability to ask questions and get directions in the local language (26% and 23%):
  • being able to order favorite food (22%).

More than 55% say that 'getting out of your comfort zone' is the best thing about travelling. At the top of the list of trips that people would still like to make are:

  • a volunteer trip (39%);
  • gastronomic adventure (38%):
  • mystery trip (38%):
  • sabbatical trip (36%):
  • and a DNA journey in search of your roots (36%).

  1. Jacques says up

    When I read this I thought yes that also applies to me. Don't get everything out of your vacation. For me, the duration and finances play a substantial role in this. I have had to make choices over and over again about where to go and what to see and also whether there is still money to do this, because it is gone. Jan Modaal's life is not a bed of roses.
