Chulalongkorn University

De Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok is the best university in the country according to a global ranking. The Mahidol University (MU) is in second place.

If we look globally, Chulalongkorn University scores significantly less. In 2016, the university is in 252nd place. For comparison: the best Dutch university, the University of Amsterdam, is in 57th place worldwide. The best Belgian university is KU Leuven, which is number 79.

The Chulalongkorn University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the country and was officially established on March 26, 1917 by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI). He named the university after his father King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) who was committed to promoting education in Thailand.

Today, the university consists of 18 faculties, three schools, three colleges and six institutes with a total number of 32.500 undergraduate and graduate students.

Chulalongkorn University has awarded honorary degrees to a number of international dignitaries and heads of state, including former US Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Bill Clinton, the late Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, former South African President Nelson Mandela, and R. ZM King Don Juan Carlos the Bourbon of Spain.

    It just depends on which ranking you use. According to https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2016/world-ranking Wageningen is the best in the Netherlands and Mahidol in Thailand.

    I strongly suspect that that is a ranking for agricultural=agriculture/livestock farming - that is exactly what Mahidol is known for in TH. What surprises me is that Thammasat is no longer on the 2nd place- Mahidol always comes out/came out worse because only some fields like that agrar and medical turn out well, but many other non-level fun study ala RamKamHaeng.

    In others it is Mongkut institute of technology. Such rankings only matter to those who care about them.
