Monday 5 December it will be rough and angry in the south of Thailand. Heavy rains and high waves are predicted for this weekend and Monday. These are caused by a powerful low-pressure system over southern Thailand and Malaysia plus the annual northeast monsoon.

Yesterday there were already high waves and inland flooding was reported. In Surat Thani, the water reached a height of 60 to 150 cm in some places.

Residents along the east coast in the south have been advised to take precautions. Small ships must stay ashore. Waves of 2 to 3 meters are expected in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. There is also a danger of water and mudslides from the mountains.

The TMD has a very bad reputation, and now it becomes clear why. This morning and yesterday we had a lot of rain, last night also a strong wind but nothing exceptional. The forecasts for the next few days are a clear improvement, but the TMD issues the warning when the worst is already behind us.

It will rain in Narathiwat from Thursday. Very heavy showers, interspersed with less heavy ones. It may be dry for one hour a day. According to the Thai meteo, the heaviest monsoon rains should end in this province from Monday. We'll see if, as most here say: Inshallah.
