The health authorities in Chiang Mai are concerned about dengue fever. This year, 741 infections have already been detected in Chiang Mai. Relatively young people between the ages of 15 and 24 are particularly affected.

The population has been warned about the spread and local authorities have been asked to take measures, such as deploying response teams.

The tiger mosquito (Aedes) that spreads the disease can reproduce in stagnant water.

Dengue (dengue fever) is an infectious disease caused by a virus. The virus is transmitted by mosquitoes. The majority of dengue virus infections are without symptoms. Non-severe dengue virus infections recover after a few days to a week. People can get dengue multiple times. A small proportion of infections progress to severe dengue with complications such as dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS). Without treatment, such complications are life-threatening.

Dengue prevention is mainly aimed at avoiding mosquito bites, especially in the early morning and afternoon when Aedes mosquitoes are active. Wearing covering clothing and rubbing the skin with a mosquito repellent containing DEET reduces the risk of infection. Sleeping under a mosquito net is also recommended.

Coincidentally, my daughter (34) also had dengue last week. In Bangkok, it seems to be common as well.
The hospital has made a report and the municipality has come to spray around the house and hand out a folder. I doubt whether this is useful because 100 meters further on there are just as many / few mosquitoes and they really don't stay there looking for food.
1 Week in hospital and now better again, luckily
