Monday night's earthquake has not yet subsided. The northern province of Chiang Rai was also hit by aftershocks last night. The Seismological Bureau has now counted a total of 274.

The heaviest had a force of 4,8 on the Richter scale. The remaining shocks ranged in magnitude from less than 3 to 5,2. The earthquake itself had a magnitude of 6,3, making it the second strongest in Thailand and the strongest in the North.

The Ministry of Finance has set aside an amount of 500 million baht for aid to the victims and the rehabilitation of public facilities. A committee has been formed to oversee the relief efforts and recovery.

Seven districts of Chiang Rai have been declared a disaster area. This status guarantees rapid assistance. These are the districts of Phan, Mae Lao, Mae Suai, Wiang Chai, Muang Chiang Rai, Pa Daet and Phaya Mengrai. In this area, 3.500 houses, 10 temples, 3 schools, a hotel and a road were damaged. Highway 118 (Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai) has subsided in two places.

The Fine Arts Department reports damage to 11 relics and 24 temples in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Nan and Phayao.

Hundreds of families in Mae Lao and Mae Suai are on the safe side; they have moved to tents in the open field for fear that their home is unsafe.

The Department of Mineral Resources keeps a close eye on the five fault lines in the North. The service considers it likely that the next quake will occur along one of these active fault lines.

The epicenter of Monday's quake was 7 kilometers underground in Phan district in the northern part of the 70 kilometer long Phayao fault line. The quake was the second along the Phayao fault line in XNUMX years.

Still terrible for those affected, it is hoped that the government will support them, in the north people do not have much to do anyway and then also this noose.

Hello, I can talk about it and can vividly imagine how bad this is and how long it can take before everything calms down again. I went from Thailand with my wife to New Zealand 6 years ago because I had been there before I went to Thailand. lived there, we decided to go to Christchurch because there was the best job there, not knowing what to expect in 2010 we were hit by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake and the following year in June 2011 two, the first 6.3 and 5.9 in the space of a few hours, A total of 125 people died as a result of this dramatic moment.
After 3 years and so, 10000 aftershocks, we are still light years away from a recovery and it looks like it will be a very long time.
As a result of these earthquakes, parts of Christchurch have fallen 30 centimeters lower, with the result that large parts of Christchurch have been flooded in the last 2 months, so much misery and can only hope that everyone in Tahailand receives the support they but it will take quite a long time before the present turns into a memory.
With my deepest sympathy and support for all affected by this disaster, we know all about it. Jack
